Random thoughts…

December 5, 2007 · 2 Comments

Okay so it’s been a couple of days but I finally got to a Starbucks, the air is clearing and the caffeine is kicking in (even though it’s a decaf, tall non-fat vanilla latte). It’s the environment, baby – that will preach. (How does your environment impact you? How does the environment and culture your church is creating impact those who you’re trying to reach and serve?). Anyhow, it’s been a crazy few days – spent my day off Monday working on women’s stuff for C-stone – now that’s commitment. Excited about conference coming in April and think we’ve nailed the contextual side and aligned it with the direction of the conference.

  • Excited about “The White Board Sessions.” I think this is a fantastic approach to a conference and I’m loving the speaker line up so far… hope I can make it some how.
  • I think I’m going to be able to drive in snow! I chickened out up in Utica this weekend – I didn’t want to learn while I was rushing between the Rome and Utica campuses.
  • I need to drain the water out of the windscreen washer container in my car… I discover that it freezes when its so stinking cold… Had fun driving back from Utica on Sunday – couldn’t see a thing due to salt and dirt all over my windscreen. Yes I have purchased some washer fluid.
  • My favorite scene at the moment is the frozen lake I drive by every morning as I take the kids to school. It’s now covered in snow. A frozen lake – just crazy, never thought I see that.
  • Excited about Christmas – my parents come in 10 days!
  • I love this quote, “The villain of clarity is knowledge. Too much information keeps us from seeing the main point. If you have three points, you’re not making any point at all.” from this book.
  • I’m really looking forward to our Christmas services on December 23… lots of people are working hard to create an environment were our friends who are far away from God can see and hear the meaning of Christmas. Remember Christmas was meant to change everything…
  • “Peace out, cracker” is my new favorite statement. Thanks Brody (who’s three and says it like no one else).

Old man winter… bring it on!

October 6, 2007 · 1 Comment

winter-hat.gifI’m ready for winter in New York now (even though its still in the mid 70’s). I still don’t have a snow shovel, snow blower or snow plow for the front of my Mazda 3. Do people actually where this kind of stuff? I guess I’m going to find out over the coming months. Every single person that I’ve met here over the past three months (three months that just mind boggling) has mentioned winter, and given me one of those “I know something you don’t” smiles. I’ve asked myself and others how I’m supposed to prepare for something I’ve never experienced? I guess it’s a little like parenting you learn as you go and roll with the punches.

Do you know your personal DNA?

Not sure if you’ve seen this… a pretty incredible online tool to help you discover your personal make. When I was back in Portland at CBC I sent quite a bit of time working with Marc Estes on developing an experience for people to discover their gifts, talents, passions, personal make up etc. I’ve looked at a look of stuff on the personality side of things and this one ranks pretty high on my list. Interesting little tool – and it’s free. Check it out.
